Well we started with a few and our rabbit collection just keeps on growing. I now understand rabbit math. We are now up to 3 bucks. We have Captain Carrot our black New Zealand, Colonel Kale our Giant Chinchilla cross, and our newest addition Sergeant Pepper our broken black New Zealand. We now have 7 does. We have Orchid our American Chinchilla cross, Poppy our New Zealand red, Blossom our gold tipped steel New Zealand, Clover our Red Eyed White New Zealand/Silver fox cross, Iris our Booted broken gold tipped steel New Zealand/Silver fox cross, and new with no names yet a Red Eyed White New Zealand, and a broken New Zealand. We hope to be able to supply our selves and a few friends with rabbit year round.
With the expansion of buns we have learned a lot about quarantining new animals, husbandry practices, feeding, cleaning and everything that goes along with rabbits. One thing I have learned is there is so much to read and research with owning any animal. We have had no issues with disease yet or parasites. We have been picky about where we get our animals from and have avoid mass produced bred rabbits. all of ours come from small family owned or 4-h farms.
With the expansion as well we have added j feeders on the front of all of our rabbit hutches so they can have access to more feed and we dont have to open the front doors of the hutch as often. We bed our hutches with straw and hay they have access to hay and water all the time and fed pellets every evening although most never run out of pellets.
We are really loving our rabbits and find each one has a very unique personality and are very loving little guys. We are now expecting our first 3 litters this year and excited to see what our fantastic stock will produce.
